When anxiety shows up, it feels like your thoughts are sprinting ahead without you.
Your chest tightens.
Your breath shortens.
And your brain starts listing every possible “what if.”
You can’t always think your way out of it but you can imagine your way to calm.
Try this
Close your eyes (if you can).
Picture a place where you feel completely safe and at ease.
It could be real a quiet beach, a sunny garden, your favorite chair or completely made up.
Notice the details:
What colors do you see?
What sounds are in the background?
What’s the air like on your skin?
Stay there for a few breaths.
Why it works
Your brain reacts to imagined safety almost the same way it reacts to real safety.
When your mind believes you’re in a calm place, your body follows your heart rate slows, your muscles release, and your breathing evens out.
You can use this anytime:
Before bed.
While waiting for news.
In the middle of a stressful day.
Your safe place is always in your pocket right in your mind.
Definitely need this. I’m menstruating and my mind usually gets ahead of me.
